In the heart of the Negev desert, the Village of Peace Dimona stands as a testament to a profound vision for community life. Our beloved founder, Ben Ammi Ben-Israel (ABBA), laid a blueprint for a society rooted in divine principles, where every aspect of life contributes to holistic well-being. This vision extends to our economic and industrial endeavors, ensuring that our collective efforts foster true self-sustainability and health for all.
A Holistic Vision for Health and Industry
ABBA's visionary enterprises and service areas are dedicated to ensuring optimal health for our community. This comprehensive approach spans from the manufacturing of plant-based food, clothing, and cosmetics to the cultivation of music, organic agriculture, and the establishment of vibrant health centers. We also prioritize stimulating social and intellectual engagements, recognizing their vital role in overall well-being.
Our overarching objective is for the village to be entirely self-sustaining, utilizing the diverse crafts and skills of our residents to create thriving local industries. This approach not only provides meaningful work but also strengthens our communal bonds and collective capacity. Every endeavor is carefully considered to contribute to the health and vitality of the Village of Peace.
The Foundation of Sustainable Agriculture
Sustainable organic agriculture stands as a major cornerstone of our village industry, providing both nourishing food and essential fuel. We are committed to nurturing the land that sustains us, understanding that its health directly impacts our own. This commitment is deeply rooted in our principles of holistic living and environmental stewardship.
Central to this agricultural model is the practice of composting. All human, animal, and plant waste generated within the village is meticulously transformed into rich organic matter. This precious resource is then recycled back into the soil, promoting and maintaining its fertility for generations to come. It is a beautiful cycle of life, reflecting our understanding of interconnectedness.
Cultivating Essential Industries
When considering economic development and investment, we are guided by a principle of selectivity, as taught by ABBA. We are mindful of the types of products we desire to manufacture and make abundantly available to our populace, always prioritizing that which truly serves the community's well-being. For what ABBA termed “essential industry,” we focus on the fundamental areas of food, shelter, clothing, and institutions.
Where food is concerned, our goal is to easily supply our population with an abundance of fresh fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains throughout the year. Our essential food industries include the milling of our grains and the husking of our rice, ensuring that these staples are processed within our community. Reasonable mechanization is employed for the cleaning, sorting, and packaging of produce for distribution, alongside the canning or jarring of items not available year-round but desired during the off-season.
This same principle of local self-sufficiency extends to our building and clothing industries. We continuously seek to establish and support industries that complement and supply the products necessary for us to become locally independent. As Ben Ammi Ben-Israel shared in The Restoration Village, this is part of "The Restoration of Heaven on Earth through the Revitalization of the African Village Concept."
We invite you to reflect on how these principles of self-sustainability and intentional living can enrich your own journey. By embracing a holistic approach to health, community, and economic development, we continue to build a vibrant future rooted in the wisdom of Mastering the Art of Living.
