Why Discipline is a Cultural System - Not a Personal Trait

The Collective Weave of Purposeful Communal Practice in Our Unique Cultural System

Imagine a river. Its strength comes not from a single drop of water, but from the countless drops flowing together, guided by the riverbed. Similarly, in the Village of Peace Dimona, community strength and the discipline within it arise from our shared purpose and the structures we have organised together. From our morning routines to our communal meals, from our educational programmes to our cultural festivals, every aspect of life is designed to reinforce principles that lead to health and harmony in this unique cultural system. This isn't about rigid rules imposed from above; it's about creating an environment where the choice for life-affirming and often communal practices becomes the natural, supported path.

Ben Ammi received and shared a holistic vision for humanity, first recognising that the human body is drawn from the essential elements of earth.

"The human body is composed of approximately 70% water and 30% minerals, it is, in essence, earth in another form. If the body is of the earth, then it thrives on what the earth provides in its natural state."

H.E. Ben Ammi Ben Israel

This profound understanding underpins our entire approach to discipline. It means that caring for ourselves and our planet are not separate acts, but integrated expressions of a deep and eternal covenant. When our members embrace the plant-based “Live-It”, it is not simply a personal preference; it is a community-wide, daily practice that binds us in health and shared values. This collective embrace makes the disciplined choice nearly effortless, a natural extension of who we are as a people.

Our Plant-Based "Live-it" and the Five Medicines

Consider our plant-based "Live-It", a cornerstone of our community's health philosophy. For a Life Seeker outside our community, maintaining a plant-based "Live-It" might feel like a constant battle of willpower. But in the Village of Peace, it is simply how we live. Our communal and personal kitchens prepare delicious, nourishing plant-based meals. Our children grow up understanding plant-based “Food as Medicine.” Our calendar includes no-salt days, sugarless weeks, and live (raw) food weeks, again, completely plant-based, and practised in unity. This communal approach transforms what might be a difficult personal "Live-It" into a celebrated, integrated "Live-It" for all our members. And just as importantly, the shared, acknowledged value of a harm-free, plant-based "Live-It", continuously reaffirms our pursuit of the sacred covenant revering life and living in its purest sense.

Beyond food, our commitment to the Five Medicines – Food, Water, Rest, Exercise, and Cleanliness – is similarly encouraged by our cultural system. We begin each day with Water as Medicine. We are encouraged to Rest more to enhance and extend life. Exercise three times weekly, coupled with monthly massage, underscores our collective dedication to the body as a sacred vessel. Cleanliness, in all aspects of life, is upheld as supporting both health and dignity. These are not individual directives, but rhythms of life that our community has organised and perfected over 5 decades, making disciplined living a joyful, shared journey rather than an isolated struggle.

Education and Inner-attainment

Our commitment to discipline extends beyond the physical, nurturing our minds and spirits through dedicated educational programmes and purposeful Inner-attainment. Education in the Village of Peace is a lifelong pursuit, designed to cultivate servant-leaders who use their knowledge in service to the community and the wider world. This disciplined approach to learning, to seeking wisdom, is ingrained from childhood at our “Brotherhood School” through the School of the Prophets Institute and beyond. It is a shared dedication to understanding one’s purpose in the creation and doing everything possible to master it. The pursuit of that mastery is not for personal glory but to be agents of positive change, healing, peace, justice and growth.

Similarly, our approach to creative expression, which we call Inner-attainment, reflects a disciplined and reverent understanding of its power. We believe music shapes thoughts and emotions, and so our community created the 'Songs of Deliverance' – uplifting, purposeful artistic expressions that nourish the inner person. This is an intentional decision, choosing what builds and strengthens us, rather than what simply distracts, pacifies or narcotizes. By providing a rich environment of purposeful sounds and art, we collectively cultivate a disciplined inner landscape.

In Our Community, ...

... we have found that true, lasting discipline blossoms best from the fertile ground of shared purpose and supportive structures. It is a beautiful synergy where personal commitment is amplified by communal expectation and accountability.

We strive to make the journey of Mastering the Art of Living a beautiful, collective dance, rather than a solitary march. This unity in practice creates an environment where everyone can thrive, where healthy choices become second nature, and where the pursuit of a purposeful life is a joyous, shared celebration.

We warmly invite all Life Seekers to explore the profound impact of community on personal growth and discipline. Perhaps you are seeking a deeper connection to a plant-based "Live-It", or a holistic approach to health and purpose intentionally acknowledging and adhering to nature’s laws.

We invite you to learn more about our 50-plus-year journey, to explore our Marketplace offerings that embody our values, or plan a Sacred Visitation to the Village of Peace Dimona.
