Every community needs people who can imagine what does not yet exist. Some might say that creators are just the artists, the musicians, the writers. In the Village of Peace, Dimona, we have come to know that creation is far bigger than a canvas or a stage. It is the inspiration behind every garden we plant, every meal we prepare, every home we build and every song we sing. For more than 50 years, our community has been mastering the Art of Living, and we have learned that the secret to a thriving community is a simple one: everyone must be a creator.

Our visual artists paint the stories of our heritage, our musicians compose songs that lift the spirit, our writers capture the lessons of our shared experience, and our storytellers pass wisdom from one generation to the next. In the Village of Peace, we see creativity as a form of inner nourishment. What we call Innerattainment is the understanding that what enters our minds and hearts shapes who we become.

The Many Faces of Creation

When we look at our village here in Dimona, we see creators everywhere. We have found that creators, builders and servants are not three separate kinds of people. Each of us is called to all three at different moments and in different measures. The farmer in the Negev who coaxes life from arid soil is a creator. The Divine Nutritionist (the cook) who turns fresh fruits, grains and vegetables into a feast that heals and delights is a creator. The teacher (the Dedicator) who opens a child's mind to wonder or gently reminds an adult of the beauty of constant learning is a creator. The parent who shapes a safe and loving home is a creator. We do not separate the artist from the worker, because every act of honest, caring work is an act of creation. A community that understands this is never short of vision, and never short of hope and inspiration.

Building a New Life in the Dimona Desert

Our history is a story of creation out of nothing. When the first families arrived in the desert of the Negev, there was no ready-made town waiting for us. Dimona was a sleepy little immigrant centre. There was only land, sun and a deep belief that life could be shaped with purpose. Under the founding vision of H.E. Ben Ammi Ben Israel, we did not sit back and wait for conditions to improve. We created the conditions. We dug and planted, first ourselves and our children. We built and taught, not just physical structures but an emerging, vibrant culture that would help us to actualise the pursuit of life that reflected the Creator's perfect plan for how we were to live and thrive.

Every structure in our Dimona community, every institution stands because someone saw it in their mind first, and then gave it form with their hands. It was more than just resilience or fortitude; the first art was the unique brilliance we were blessed to bring to our evolving expression of life's tapestry. That is what we mean when we say we are mastering the Art of Living. The art is not abstract; it is lived in the making of every day.

Creating Health and Wholeness

Our approach to health is also a creative act. The plant-based live-it is not a fixed set of rules handed down once and never revisited. It is a dynamic, living creation, growing and refining itself over decades as we learned to listen to our bodies and to the Creation itself. We grow our own bio-organic vegetables, not because it is convenient, but because we know food is medicine. And we know for the earth to truly 'yield its increase' we have to protect and honour it by inputting only living energy.

We teach and encourage building a loving relationship with Mother Earth at the earliest possible age with our children. Everywhere they look, they see their peers, parents and elders tending to some sort of garden. It becomes second nature for many of them to value those living, life-giving entities that often end up as a tasty meal.

Another of the five medicines, exercise, becomes a joyful creation when we dance, walk or play together. Beyond the joy the body naturally generates when exercising, the deeper joy of purpose — actively pursuing the ultimate longevity — adds an extra lift. And the medicine of rest, honoured on the Sabbath and every evening, allows our bodies and minds to take part in the never-ending work of renewal. In this way, every meal and every movement becomes an opportunity to create health, rather than simply consume it.

Builders: Turning Ideas Into Form

Builders take the creator's spark and make it real. They construct our homes, plant our fields, establish our businesses and raise our institutions. In our community, builders have transformed desert soil into fertile bio-organic farmland. They have established a marketplace that shares wholesome products with neighbours and faraway friends. They lay the paths that others walk on, and they do so with patience and skill. They have transformed what was once an arid, empty space into an 'Island of Sanity'.

We have found that building is not simply a technical act. It is an expression of devotion. When we build a school, we are building a future. When we plant an orchard, we are planting a promise to the generations to come. Builders give shape to our shared vision, and their work stands as a reminder that steady hands and steady hearts can accomplish almost anything.

Creators: Seeing What Could Be

Creators bring imagination and inspiration. They are the ones who look at an empty space and see a garden, at a quiet evening and hear a song, at a simple meal and taste a celebration. In our community, creators compose Songs of Deliverance, design cultural attire from natural fibres, and develop recipes that honour the plant-based live-it. They remind us that life is not only about survival but about beauty, meaning and joy.

Our experience has shown that when someone creates from a place of purpose, the whole community begins to move. A new melody can lift the spirit of an entire gathering. A well-tended garden can become a place of learning for our children. A thoughtfully prepared dish can turn a meal into a moment of gratitude. Creators enlarge our sense of what is possible.

The Gift of Creation

In our community, we have found that creativity awakens what is best in a person. When someone brings a new recipe to the kitchen, a new song to the choir or a new method to the orchard, they are not just making a thing. They are giving a piece of themselves to the rest of us — a piece deeply convicted and hopefully deeply cherished. We have found that this giving is what bonds a community together. It is also how we grow. Every creator who takes a risk inspires others to try something new. The cycle never ends, and that is exactly how we want it to be.

We have also found that creation is a medicine all its own. It quiets the mind, steadies the heart and reminds us that we are alive and capable. Whether we are shaping dough, wood and steel or shaping soil, we are shaping ourselves.
